TOXIC MOLD - Stachybotrys chartarum

Stachybotrys chartarum is a black mold that grows on wet cellulose materials. This mold is both allergenic and toxic. It is considered a serious health hazard and it is associated with human health problems such as difficulty in breathing, sore throat, watery eyes, memory problems, and skin irritation. However the most alarming situations with Stachybotrys are those in which infants living in water damaged homes develop pulmonary hemorrhage (bleeding in the lungs). In children it has been associated with lung tissue damage and memory loss.
Stachybotrys chartarum usually occurs after flooding of the house, however, the mold can be hidden in bathroom, kitchen, or basement areas, in wet spots created by minor invisible leaks.
